Comicgenesis Cont...

Still have not even been able to login to comic genesis at all.
Not only that it's revealed how much more of a pain in the ass that site is and at this point I am not going to bother with it at all.

First, after signing up on comic genesis, i am forced to make a forum account, even if I don't give a shit about their forum.

I cannot login to the SiteAdmin section of the site. I have done what they asked, I made my first account, waited a stupidly long time to get that activated, then signed up for the forum account.
Using the forum login, Im attempting to login to this stupid siteadmin part, like it's telling me to, but it still wont work.

I run to the retarded forums to see if there is any information on this, and low and behold there are thousands of forum threads with people who cant login.
I search through them and they all are getting replies about capitals, forum logins are not case sensative, but site admin is, and if you sign into fourm without using capitals then you need to logout of that, and site admin and log back in the forums with your capitals, then log into siteadmin Blah blah blah

Basically there are not 2 but 3 logins for this site that are inter connected somehow and you have to login to the fourms before you can login to the site. If you didn't login to the forums right, then you cant login to the site, and if you are having trouble you should create a new login for this other part of the site to get help.

Talk about redundant BULLSHIT.

BTW, in all this, I forgot to mention, I never use capitals when I sign up for things. But apparently theres no explination for that on comicgenesis, so I'm just screwed and don't get to play.
Boo hoo.

Drunk Duck

I have to say Drunk Duck is one of the best sites I have come across for posting web comics. It's not perfect of course, but it is still the best!

Pros:
The site allows for multiple page uploads which is awesome for people who have established comics and want to start somewhere new. The upload forms are very simple and easy.
On one account you can have several comics, and they have them on your profile page with nice large icons and names, with the ratings right on those icons.

When you view your account, you can view recent comments on all your comics in an easy to see list, view your activity stats, change your password all in one easy location.

When you open your comic tab on the site menu, you can add pages with one click, change your page design for each comic, and check more in depth info on how each comic is doing.

Each of your comics gets it's own forums, stats and admin controls.

You can also edit your layout design, and include projectwonderful ad space and the like. I am not much of a code monkey so the codes are a little intimidating to me, but it does look fairly straight forward, pick a template or edit the raw HTML.

Now outside your own little comics there are the Drunk Duck forums. I have yet to post much in them but I have been lurking in there for a while, and I am much impressed with their comic review forums.
You apply to have your comic reviewed and an admin will post your comic as a sticky, and other drunk duck forum users will review your comic!
So you get lots of reviews, because the forum is quite active and you get a lot of exposure.
You have to review 3 comics before your eligible to get reviewed, which is fair and a good idea. It helps ensure that people will always get reviewed. So the process is really well thought out.

Now back in your own comics, Drunk Duck is one of the fasted places to gain exposure.
Before I even finished posting my pages, I had comments. I got really fast exposure and plenty of it, which was not something I was really used to. I didn't have to comment on a pile of other comics before people noticed me and I didn't have to dedicate hours and hours to the site that I could be putting in my comic to get readers.
That is because DD posts you on the main page for a decent amount of time when you are new. You get the immediate exposure you need.

And another plus, After only being on Drunk Duck for... a month, Give or take, I got featured!
What that means is that I was put on the main page ( a nice large image on the top of the page, picked by an admin) and they wrote a little article about what they liked about my comic.
Feel free to read that article, it made me very happy to see that my comic, that had vanished and been lost on so many other sites was visible to admin and members of the site so easily.
And it's not because my comic was floating in a pile of junk, I have no problem finding awesome comics on drunk duck. It is not a site flooded with crap, there are some bad, there are good, but not a lot of crap! If there is, they do an awesome job of letting it filtre to the bottom.

The drunk duck community is very friendly and honest, and there is not a lot of pointless drama that is rampant on sites like DeviantART.

Also, you an collect badges for page milestones, being featured, winning at games and forum posts. Which helps keep the community active.

Drunk Duck also has a slew of games where you can win awards in that I have yet had time to explore. They also have tutorials by members that I have also not yet had a chance to explore!

Cons:
Occasionally there have been times where the comics menu wont pop down, I find if I go into "my account" first and then open the comics menu, then it works.

.... I honestly cant think of more than that for cons. The site isn't perfect and some people will like the interfaces better than others.
I personally like the graphical (without being laggy) colourful way it is.

I think if anyones looking for a place to host their comics, this is the place to do it.

Comic Genesis

This is not a full review, just a rant.

I was just signing up on comic genesis to try and get a little more exposure to my comic. You know, get more readers on more sites, most comic artists with web comics belong to several sites.

I've joined quite a few sites, but comic genesis takes the cake for being the most tediously long and ridiculous sign up process I have ever had to deal with.

First you fill out a form that looks so sterile and 90's, it reminds me of a tax form.
There is almost no formatting or spacing between text and form fields, the thing is just a jumble.
It's difficult to see which question goes with which text box.
Everything just blends together.

On top of that, they require your home address and phone number.
Come on, I'm only posting webcomics here, I am not giving a site I don't trust my REAL address and phone number just to post some comics. Give me a break!
There are more efficient ways to protect against spam that prevent liability and security issues.

Anyway, after filling out that annoying form of uglyness, it takes like and hour or two (who knows, I went to bed and waited till the next day) for the email with the verification code to come.

Read the whole thing, You verify with this code and you have to wait 7 MORE DAYS to get a password from them!
In our automated world, that is a RIDICULOUS wait time to sign up on a site!

So the reason this is not a full review and just a rant, is because i haven't even SEEN the site yet form the inside. I'm still waiting for my password =|

This is a perfect example of inefficiency.

Critical Kitty is Critical

I decided that I need a place to review web comics, web comic hosting sites and have more of a comic related place. So thats what you will see here:
*comic reviews
*comic site reviews
*comic related rants

and whatever!
